3 Common Energy Drains & How To Cure Them

CommonEnergyDrainsFeeling tired and mentally drained, but don’t know why? Read on for your cure, lovely.

Truth is, none of us have infinite amounts to mindlessly give away. Yes, we can always plug back into our energy sources (for me, it’s spending time outside or in a pool of sunshine… yes, I’m sort of like a cat), but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to be conscious of our energy.

Don’t fear! Here are some common energy drains I run into a lot with clients, and my tips on how to fix them.

Common Energy Drain #1 - Mental Overwhelm

A super common energy drain I run into with my clients is mental overwhelm. It often happens when we have so many things to do at once and have a constant mental influx of project ideas that we want to act on right away (which is always the case with entrepreneurs). It can be a lot to keep track of!

Solution

  1. Write things down (get them out of your brain!)
  2. Mercilessly eliminate unnecessary items
  3. Delegate tasks that you simply don’t want to do
  4. Schedule out tasks you want to keep. If you’re visual, use flow charts and mind maps to get a simple representation of what’s going on in your head.

Also, it’s helpful to remember the whys behind what you’re doing. If you have an email campaign that you’ve been avoiding, plug back into the bigger “why” behind it. Is it to grow your business? If so, then what does growing your business mean to you and your future? Always remember your why.

Common Energy Drain #2 – Energy Vampires

Ay-yi-yay! This topic is something that I can write a whole article on. For now, let’s just start with the basics: energy vampires are people who suck your energy (either intentionally or unintentionally) without giving any back.

Think about it: is there anyone you know who’s very presence makes you feel tired and just emotionally drained? Yup, chances are they are an energy vampire.

Solution

My advice? Stay far away from energy vampires as much as possible, if not completely. Then, watch your energy soar.

Common Energy Drain #3 – Doing Things Because You “Should”

OK, this one gets me fired up (honestly, because it’s something I still work through myself!).

If you’re not scheduling in time for making your dream life happen, guess what? It’s not going to happen.

After clearing up some energetic space (see #1 and #2 above), be conscious about the things you commit your time to.

Say yes to activities, people and events that thrill you. That delight you. Be picky and be merciless with your time. You have the right to.

Solution

If you’re serious about living your purpose and living your dream life, then you must be a planning and organizing maven. And you have to be picky, too.

So many women say “yes” to things they don’t really want to do. Maybe it’s hanging out with friends when you originally planned to have a cozy night in, or maybe it’s saying yes to too many networking events.

The bottom line is, your inner voice gets ignored when you say yes when you really would rather not.

Sometimes, deep-seated beliefs like wanting to please others or wanting to appear a certain way, can sabotage your go-getting efforts. If you’re having problems with this one, I suggest downloading The Cure and working through it.

Wrap Up

Be merciless with how and who you spend your time and energy with.

You deserve to live a well-curated life.

Every step you take for yourself is a step in the direction of your dreams.
